April 10th - Comprehensive Runtime Governance Solutions

When implementing SOA, it's clear that runtime governance is essential. However, many organizations wait too long to bring in runtime governance measures. They don't realize that "runtime" exists at each stage of the service lifecycle: Development, Staging, and Production.  As a result, they miss many opportunities, benefits and efficiencies they would have realized had they brought in runtime governance earlier.

Jeff Barnes created a very complete presentation on the topic.  His slides are full of very useful information, just having the deck is a great resource in itself.

We also have several discussions around the topic, especially because the diversity of the people attending the meeting: we had a project manager, developer, operations/support, data architect and solutions architect.  It is always interesting to hear different points of view!

December - Web Services Software Factories

Presented by Don Smith, Product Manager for the Web Services & Integration program on the patterns & practices team at Microsoft.

 The Service Factory is a cohesive collection of various forms of guidance that help developers and architects build high quality connected solutions in a more consistent way with less effort. In addition to the forms of guidance you may have already seen from the patterns & practices team, a new form of guidance called a Guidance Package is used to allow guidance to be automated from inside Visual Studio 2005 through the use of a wizard-based dialogs. This guidance can also be modified to fit the needs of a specific solution. This session will present the Service Factory, walk you through some common usage patterns, and discuss the development process and future of the Service Factory.

November – WCF & Connected Systems

Presented by Jeff Barnes, Architect Evangelist for the Gulf States District

Learn how to leverage the new features in Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) to make a smooth transition to a service-oriented architecture.  The capabilities exposed through this new addition to the .NET framework will enable the core building blocks of connected systems such as data & service contracts, security, reliability, administration, and management.

Welcome to the JAXDUG Architect Special Interest Group.

 

The JAXDUG Architect SIG is a professional organization whose membership is open to all who are dedicated to the art, science, and business of information technology architecture.   Each monthly meeting will include a balance of social networking, facilitated group discussions, and a presentation from a peer or guest speaker.

Although the SIG is co-sponsored by Microsoft, subjects will cover both Microsoft and non-Microsoft technologies.  In fact, managing multi-vendor complexity in a technology portfolio is arguably the primary accountability for enterprise architects!

 

Meeting content is managed by a board of directors who approve topics and speakers.  If you are interested in presenting, please submit an abstract of your topic and a biography of yourself to the board.  If you are interested in being a board member, please submit your resume.
